Will and Grace disgrace
Last night I watched the live season premier of Will and Grace. It's always been a show I enjoy, it's entertaining and sometimes hilarious.
Sorry, about your eyebrow Jack!
During the show, the LIVE show, Debra Messing made a political reference to George W Bush.
What she said was something like...
"I do things without thinking and don't understand the consequences, Wow I'm George Bush."
Later Will's new boss made a comment about having to shred some documents for Tom Delay.
Now I'm sure Debra Messing and the other actor who's name I don't remember are nice people, probably intelligent people.
But why do they think we want to hear their political jabs on a non-political show? If I want to hear politics I'll watch Saturday Night Live, or some talk show where this is expected.
Basically there is no real difference between you and I and any actor. They get paid a lot of money to play act. They wear sparkly clothes to Hollywood Galas. But they are no smarter than you or I. Their political point of view is no more salient or important that mine or yours.
But they have a platform to make their comments that will allow them to be heard by possibly millions of people. I have this blog which is read by a few thousand people weekly, maybe you have one too, but most of us have no way of talking to thousands or millions of people at once.
Seems a bit unfair to me. Taking advantage of your rather unimportant but very visible position to try to push your political view on others.
Debra, shut up and act!
