Lost the TV show.

If you haven't been watching, Lost is about a group of plane crash survivors, trying to figure out what to do on a island. The island is getting stranger and stranger as time goes by. Gilligan's Island it ain't.

Last week they crashed, found out that they are 1000 miles off course, so the rescuers are looking 1000 miles from where they are, and that there is some kind of huge beast (monster? ) on the island. We haven't seen the beast yet.

It's been interesting watching how the different people react to this disaster.

One girl refuses to do anything even eat because "They'll be here to get us any minute."

Another character, Jack, is an MD. He sort of has taken charge.

Then there's Kate, who in episode one sort became Jack's assistant, and whom it turns out is the prisoner of an injured Marshal, That's the guy with the hunk of airplane stuck into his stomach, we found that out at the end of episode 2.

Another interesting character is Hurley. Fat guy, long hair, passes out at the site of blood. Hurley is played by Jorge Garcia, who recently was seen on Becker..

Then there's the druggy, played by former Hobbit, Dominic Monaghan, here he is known as Charlie. This may get interesting. He was Merry for those like me who had trouble remembering which was which in LOTR movies.

Then comes Sayid, played by Naveen Andrews. Turns out he is a former Iraqi Soldier, who fought in Gulf War one.

The Japanese couple? What can you say about them?

Here's a complete cast list

Actor Character
Matthew Fox Jack
Evangeline Lilly Kate
Ian Somerhalder Boone
Dominic Monaghan Charlie
Jorge Garcia Hurley
Maggie Grace Shannon
Malcolm David Kelley Walt
Naveen Andrews Sayid
Harold Perrineau Michael
Josh Holloway Sawyer
Terry O'Quinn Locke
Daniel Dae Kim Jin
Yunjin Kim Sun
Emilie de Ravin Claire

On the second episode a group of the survivors treks across the Island to get to higher ground and try to use the radio to call for help. On the way across this TROPICAL Island they are attacked by a POLAR BEAR! Now that's freaky because Polar Bears don't live much south of the Artic circle.

I won't ruin the show for you any more. The entire 2 hour pilot, made up of the two first episodes is playing this Saturday. So watch it!

And that beast that nobody has seen yet. I think it's an invisible GodZilla. :)

Or maybe a Cave Troll from LOTR that got ahold of a Ring Of Invisibility.

Saddam's Ties to Terrorism

I set out this morning doing searches to find articles on Saddam's ties to terrorism.

I have repeatedly heard about this or that terrorist being found in Iraq, where they had been hiding for years, until the fall of Saddam's regime. I had heard a bit here and there about some WMD or equipment to make WMD being found in Iraq. And I wanted to gather it all together in one place for easy access.

Well I found a page that has already done that. This page is constantly updated and has articles that go way back. The oldest I saw was 1999.

Saddam's Ties to Terrorism

I have only touched the surface of the many articles linked to from here.

Enjoy.

Salman Pak?

For years before the invasion of Iraq I had heard about a jet liner parked near Baghdad that was used to train Hijackers.

Then it just fell off the radar.

Why?

I understand that the Blame American First, forged document loving press in America doesn't want the word spread.

But George W Bush should be shouting this from the roof tops.

He should have a team of CSIs combing that plane for DNA evidence of the 9/11 terrorists. I know maybe they didn't train there, but let's check anyway!

Salman Pak
Former Iraqi military officers have described a highly secret terrorist training facility at Salman Pak, where both Iraqis and non-Iraqi Arabs receive training on hijacking planes and trains, planting explosives in cities, sabotage, and assassinations.

The 9/11 Connection What Salman Pak could reveal
Details on this facility and its al Qaeda ties recently emerged in a Manhattan federal courtroom. Former CIA Director James Woolsey and Iraq scholar Laurie Mylroie offered sworn expert testimony in a largely overlooked lawsuit filed by the families of two people killed on 9/11. They are suing Iraq's government, among other rogue entities and individuals, for allegedly helping to murder their loved ones.

Interview Sabah Khodadah
After your service in the army, you worked for a secret part of the Iraqi government?

Some of it is not very secretive. But there's another part, which has a lot to do with international terrorism and this kind of operation -- this is very secretive.

Maybe you could tell me what this section is called, and who runs it. And what did it do?

It's called the Division of Special Operations. ... This whole camp where their training is run by the Iraqi [security service]... The government organization [that] basically possesses or have control of the camp is the Iraqi intelligence. But different training people who come, they are headed or sent by different people in the Iraqi government.

9/11 Bombshell: Judge Rules Saddam Trained Hijackers
In a bombshell finding virtually ignored by the American media, a U.S. district court judge in Manhattan ruled Wednesday that Salman Pak, Saddam Hussein's airplane hijacking school located on the outskirts of Baghdad, played a material role in the devastating Sept. 11 attacks on America.

The ruling renders moot complaints from Bush administration critics that the U.S. has so far failed to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, since an official verdict that Baghdad was complicit in the attacks provides more than enough justification for the decision to topple Saddam Hussein's regime.

In reporting Judge Harold Baer's $104 million judgment against Hussein and Osama bin Laden, only the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Chinese news service Xinhua mentioned Salman Pak by name.

Marines find site of terror training

CAMP AS SAYLIYAH, Qatar -- Marines overran a suspected terrorist training camp Sunday, complete with an old airliner and a rappelling tower, after picking up information from non-Iraqi fighters captured in the war.

U.S. forces earlier had captured Syrians, Egyptians and Sudanese who said they had trained in the Salman Pak camp southeast of Baghdad.

"We believe that this camp had been used to train these foreign fighters in terror tactics," U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Vincent Brooks said during a briefing. "It is now destroyed."

Lots of smoke here! Wonder if maybe there's some fire?

Bush Surprise Visit To Troops Headed to Iraq

White House Pool Report: Bush Surprise Visit To Troops Headed to Iraq

The following is a press pool report on President Bush's surprise visit to a plane full of troops headed to Iraq.

After the pool boarded Air Force One, following the president, it was observed that the Secret Service had not boarded, and we were told that the plane was "waiting." It eventually was learned that we were waiting for the arrival of a "World" airlines charter MD-11 carrying 292 Guardsmen and reservists for duty in Iraq. The plane departed from Ft. Bragg with the 30th Brigade Combat team, a guard unit from North Carolina, the 414th Transportation Batallian reserve unit from South Carolina, and the 230th Area Support Group, a guard unit from Tennessee. There seemed to be a few other units as well, such as the 150th armored cavalry, a guard unit from West Virginia. They are heading to Germany and then to Kuwait, for 18-24 months duty in Iraq. They were obviously excited to see the president, and a few confessed to being down when they had to say goodbye to their families, but they said they were boosted by the president's appearance. They were reluctant to talk about the mission in Iraq, appearing stoic about that. They were all wearing desert fatigues and filled virtually every seat on the 3-engine plane. The officers were seated in business class.

The soldiers mostly had cameras ready to take snapshots of Bush. Several requested autographs. They called out phrases such as "this is awesome." The president put a tie and suit jacket on after the rally and walked down one aisle and back up the other, offering gentle smiles and words such as "I'm proud of you" and "thank you." Pool was not close enough to hear any more than that. As he got to the rear of the plane, Sgt. Wanda Dabbs, 22, of the 230th, called out, "That's my president, hooah!" and there were cheers. At the end of the handshakes on the packed, hot plane, Bush got on the PA system from the middle galley. "I appreciate being president to such fine men and women. May God bless you all. May God keep you safe." Potus took the limo the few hundred yards between the two planes.

Brief interviews with a few of the troops: Sgt. Wanda Dabbs, 230th. On president: "This is very exciting." On the mission: "I'm ready. I'm ready to go 'til the mission is done." Sgt. Shelly Bivens, 230th, Enthusiastic about mission? "I'm excited to serve our country." Master Sgt. Johnny Scott, 230th, a postal worker: "It's unusual, very unusual. It's pretty cool, a good morale boost." Sgt. 1st class Bill Freeman, 230th, a steelworker union member with Goodyear tire in Tennessee, "I think he's the best president of my lifetime? I can guarantee you right now this is the best thing that ever happened to me in my lifetime." Specialist Brian Parker, 230th: "We were down when we left our families," he said, giving a thumbs down. "But then we heard Air Force One was here. It's a good morale boost." Sgt. 1st class Bobby Dailey, 150th, a Fedex worker. Good spirits? "We are now. It's a nice surprise. It ain't every day you land somewherer and the president gets on your plane." Asked if he was a Bush supporter, he said, "We're commander-in-chief supporters." Spec. Sgt. David Spence, 230th, 54, on the election: "I'm still balancing the issues. I'm not sure. I'd like to hear what he (Bush) has to say." A machinist, has one daughter. Specialist E4 Eddie Latham. "I can't believe it's him." 35, factory worker. "I think he's a great leader, but I'm nervous to go to Iraq." Will still vote for Bush. 2nd Lt. Roxana Pagan-Sanchez. 30th brigade,30 yrs, 12 year old son. Bush said he was proud of her. Works at urgent care clinic in Raleigh, army environmental scientist. Voting for Bush. "He told me he's proud of me. I'm so proud of him."

Bush aides knew the plane was on its way here and due to arrive about 5 minutes after AF1 left. "They pushed the gas pedal a little bit," Card said, and AF1 waited. Card said after Bush finished the Bangor rally speech they got word that the logistics would work and Bush gave permission to wait.

The plane's pilot, Mikkel "Mike" Hansen, said that they got word from the World Airways hq that they were attempting to hook up with AF1 in Bangor. "We pushed it about 50 or 60 knots," Hansen said. The Los Angeles based pilot added that they received further instructions from the control tower as well as directly from AF1. "You don't get that every day." Gary Goodpastor, another pilot called a "check captain" because he monitors other pilots, said it was a "thrill."

All the soldiers had been given absentee ballots in the day or two before they departed. Many still had the ballots with them.
