The Assault rifle ban ends.
Until a couple of days ago, certain SEMI-automatic rifles, and large clips for those weapons, were temporarily banned. They were called assault rifles. If you already owned one of these weapons, your weapon was grand-fathered. Meaning it was unaffected, you just couldn't buy a new one.So existing assault rifles were unaffected. The assault weapon ban didn't remove a single gun from the hands of gun owners, whether criminal or law-abiding citizen.
SEMI-automatic pistols were not affected. (Some of the banned assault rifles might look like pistols to some people)
The ban on assault weapons meant almost nothing. If I put a wooden stock on a particular rifle it was legally a hunting rifle. If I put an ugly fiberglass stock on the same rifle it was called an assault weapon, and was banned.
Many of the banned weapons were quickly returned to the shelves of gun stores after very minor modifications, like doing away with the flash suppressor, which had no affect on the operation of the weapon.
I have to admit that the one thing that did have some affect in the assault weapon ban was the law against clips above a certain number of rounds. That may have had some effect as it would have caused a shooter to stop and reload more often.
But our limp wrist liberal traditional press, you know AlJa-CNN, AlJa-CBS, AlJa-NBC.....Ad Nauseam. Are whining about the end of the assault weapon ban.
The ignorance of the press corps is ASStounding. I repeatedly hear them refer to assault weapons as "Automatic weapons". All the weapons banned were SEMI-automatic weapons. If you don't even know the difference, how can you possibly make an informed decision about assault weapons?
Or are they deliberately misleading you by calling semi-automatic weapons automatics? You'll have to guess on that one.
Then I heard a reporter say recently that a certain SEMI-automatic weapon can fire as fast as 30 rounds a second. Horse Pucky! No way a person can pull a trigger 30 times in one second. How many people support the ban on assault rifles because of such ignorance from the bully pulpit of the liberal media?
How many people in the US support the assault weapon ban because they think all assault weapons are full-auto street sweepers like they see our military using in Iraq?
Let's define some terms.
Automatic weapon--- pull and hold the trigger, it will shoot continuously until it runs out of ammo.
Semi-automatic---Pull the trigger, it fires once. The weapon will fire every time the trigger is pulled. Most pistols fall into this category. Even revolvers.
Single shot weapons--fire once then have to be reloaded before they are fired again.
Repeater--magazine holds a number of rounds, the weapon has to be "cocked" between each round fired. These would be bolt action rifles, jack the slide shotguns, and lever action rifles.
Assault weapon--Here's the tricky one. Who really knows what makes a weapon an assault rifle? In many cases you can put a wooden stock on a rifle and it's a hunting rifle, put an ugly black stock on the same weapon and it's magically turned into an assault weapon. It doesn't shoot any faster or more accurately, it's no more "deadly" but now it is an assault rifle. Go figure. Maybe all ugly weapons are assault rifles?
The assault weapon ban was from beginning to end a trick to get votes from an uninformed public. When it was instituted it got votes from the many gun grabbers in this country and today it's end is being used against George W Bush. How?
I heard several reporters on different news channels say "The assault weapon ban ended because George W Bush didn't ask Congress to extend it."
Of course they never mention the Senator John Fonda Kerry didn't ask Congress to extend it either.
Assault weapons are not the real danger in the country. The worst danger we face is a mainstream media that is a bunch of far left liberals. They pump the heads of American full of liberal ideas every night. They praise any liberal and ridicule any conservative.
And too many people are falling for their tricks simply because they never get to hear the other side.
